박근혜는 대통령직을 잃었다. 그러나 이것으로 끝이 아니라는 지적이 지배적이다.
특히 언론, 검찰, 그리고 재벌은 박근혜를 있게한 적폐 중의 적폐다.

이런 가운데 영국 <가디언>은 사설을 통해 박근혜의 파면이 재벌개혁의 계기가
되어야 한다고 적었다. <가디언>의 지적은 사뭇 신랄하다. 박근혜의 파면이
유권자들의 분노에 따른 것이며 특히 재벌권력이 주된 원인이라는 말이다.

<가디언>의 지적대로 박근혜의 파면은 재벌개혁의 계기가 되어야 한다. 재벌을
그대로 두면 또 다른 최순실 게이트의 원인이 될 수 있기 때문이다.

Park Geun-hye is the first leader in the nation’s democratic history to be
forced from office. Her departure should also herald a shake-up of the closed
world of the country’s powerful conglomerates.

박근혜는 한국 민주주의 역사상 파면된 첫 번째 대통령이다. 박근혜의 퇴진은 또한
강력한 한국 대기업들의 폐쇄된 세계를 재정돈하는 계기가 되어야 한다.

The removal of South Korean president Park Geun-hye, by a court upholding her
impeachment, may well affect relations with North Korea, the US and China at
an anxious time in the region – especially if Moon Jae-in, the
opposition MP currently leading what is likely to be a crowded field,
succeeds her. The internal repercussions are also critical.

헌법재판소가 한국 박근혜 대통령에 대한 탄핵을 인용하여 그를 파면한 것은, 이
지역의 불안스런 시기에, 특히 많은 후보들로 북적거릴 대선에서 선두를 달리는
야당 국회의원 문재인이 박근혜의 뒤를 이어 대통령이 된다고 할 때, 북한과 미국,
그리고 중국과의 관계에 확실히 영향을 미치게 될 것이다. 한국 내부에 끼치는
영향 또한 중대하다. 

South Koreans are used to corruption scandals exposing the failings of their
leaders and the extraordinary economic and political power of the chaebols,
the huge family-run conglomerates such as Samsung. Politicians and business
people usually escape with at most token punishment. Ms Park is the first
democratically elected leader removed from office, thanks to her incompetence
and authoritarianism, perhaps in some part her gender, and growing
disaffection among voters angered by what they call “Hell Joseon”: a
country where elites protect each other while ordinary people face faltering
growth, increasing inequality, casualised labour and cut-throat competition.

한국인들은 대통령들, 그리고 대단한 경제적 정치적 권력인 삼성과 같은 거대 가족
경영 대기업들의 실패를 드러내는 부패 스캔들에 익숙해져 있다. 정치인들과
기업인들은 대부분 기껏해야 시늉에 불과한 처벌을 받고 빠져 나간다. 박근혜는
민주적으로 선출되어, 자신의 무능과 독재, 어떤 면에서 그녀의 성별, 그리고 “헬
조선”이라 불리는 이 나라, 즉 특권층은 서로를 보호하는 반면 보통 사람들은
휘청거리는 성장, 증가하는 불평등, 비정규직 노동 및 치열한 경쟁을 겪어야 하는
이 나라에 대해 분노한 유권자들의 커지는 불만으로 인해 파면된 첫 대통령이다.

Curbing excessive presidential authority is a first step. But the chaebols,
which fuelled Korea’s development under Ms Park’s dictator father, have
also amassed far too much power and are holding their country back. They,
too, must be reformed.

지나치게 큰 대통령의 권한을 제한하는 것이 첫 번째 단계이다.하지만 독재자였던
박근혜 아버지의 통치 아래서 한국의 경제 발전을 일으킨 재벌들 역시 지나치게
많은 권력을 가지게 됐으며 이들이 국가의 성장을 저해하고 있다. 이들 역시
개혁되어야 한다.
